Students Helping Students: CTE Students Build Custom Shelving for Athletics Department
What started as a simple conversation between LMS Coach McBride and CTE Teacher Dustin Woodrome quickly turned into a hands-on learning experience that will benefit the school for years to come. Thanks to the craftsmanship and dedication of six Career & Technical Education (CTE) students at LHS, the athletics department now has two brand-new, custom-built wooden shelving units to store football equipment.
The students—Colton Morrison (junior), Emma Powell (senior), Logan Sawyer (senior), Gavin Weyant-Cooper (senior), Tyler White (junior), and Ethan Birkby (junior)—took on the project under the guidance of Mr. Woodrome. Over the course of a week, during class time, they measured, cut, assembled, and finished the shelves, showcasing their skills in woodworking, problem-solving, and teamwork.
The shelving units now stand as a testament to the hard work of these students and the collaborative spirit between academics and athletics. Their efforts not only provided a valuable resource for the football program but also reinforced the importance of trade skills and craftsmanship.
Coach McBride expressed his gratitude, noting how the shelves will make a huge difference in organizing equipment and keeping the athletics storage area more efficient.
To show their appreciation, the LMS athletes signed a card to thank the students for their time and effort put into the project. Their gratitude highlights the strong sense of community and teamwork that exists within the school.
As CTE programs continue to grow, projects like this demonstrate the importance of career and technical education in preparing students for future careers while making a lasting impact on their schools.
