Physical Activity Policy
Lumberton ISD Physical Activity Policy
In accordance with Texas Education Code, Section 28.004(k), Lumberton ISD is committed to promoting physical activity as part of a healthy lifestyle for all students. Our district recognizes the important role that daily physical activity plays in the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of children and adolescents.
Elementary School Physical Activity

Students in grades K-5 will participate in a minimum of 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per school day, or a total of 135 minutes per week.

Physical activity will be provided through a combination of physical education (PE) classes, recess, and classroom movement activities.

Recess will not be withheld for academic or disciplinary reasons unless necessary for safety.
Middle School Physical Activity

Students in grades 6-8 will participate in physical activity through:

Enrollment in physical education or equivalent structured physical activity courses for at least four semesters during middle school.

Additional opportunities for physical activity may be provided through athletics, extracurricular activities, and campus wellness initiatives.

High School Physical Activity

High school students must complete at least one credit of physical education or equivalent to meet graduation requirements.

Students are encouraged to participate in interscholastic athletics, band, cheer, dance, or other physical activity-based extracurricular programs.
Campus Wellness and Activity Initiatives

All campuses will support coordinated school health programs and promote an environment that encourages physical activity throughout the school day.

Teachers are encouraged to incorporate movement breaks and physical brain boosts in classroom instruction.

Lumberton ISD will support staff wellness and provide opportunities for employees to engage in physical activity.
Statement Regarding the Right of Parents to Request Their Child’s Physical Fitness Assessment Results
In accordance with Texas Education Code §28.004(k)(4), parents or legal guardians of a student enrolled in Lumberton ISD have the right to request in writing the results of their child’s physical fitness assessment administered under Texas Education Code §38.101.
To request a copy of your child’s physical fitness assessment results, please contact your child’s campus physical education teacher or school administrator.
School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)

The Lumberton ISD SHAC reviews and recommends policies related to physical activity and overall student wellness.

The SHAC includes parents, district staff, and community members who support a whole-child approach to health and education.
